birstday

Sorry I didn't write yesterday. It was my birthday and I had a very busy day/night. It all started at 5:30 when my alarm went off for work. I had to leave in ten minutes and had absolutely no desire or energy to get up. On the ride there I closed my eyes for two seconds every six or so seconds, which is pretty dangerous. Work is always the same, whether it's busy or slow, I know what to expect and I do what is expected of me. Sometimes I really like it because it's safe for me, but other times it becomes exhausting and boring. At work, I didn't tell anyone it was my birthday and although I knew they had no possible way of knowing that it was, I was disappointed and wanted some recognition for that fact that I was now 18 and had to work on my birthday. People work on their birthday's all the time and don't make a big deal about it, so why would I? My Dad came in to the Bagel Inn and surprised me with flowers and a balloon which almost brought tears to my eyes. Even though it was a simple gesture it meant a lot to me. He earned some major Dad points with all the employees, but especially from me. Later that day Tom came in too! And so did Kathryn and Chris! And Katie, Kellie and Kelly! I won $5 on a scratchy ticket Katie bought me! I actually saw a lot of people that day that I knew, but those were the only ones who know it was my birthday. It made my work day, and my birthday that much better.

After work I went home and set up for the party! My brother's were such a huge help. Their card to me was funny. It had a Dr. Seuss rhyme on it and it was signed like this:

"Kels. You can blog about how I'm way better than Jeff. Love, Tom."
"At least I got you a gift - Jeff"

Jeff's gift was a playlist that took him two hours to create, which we ironically barely used. I still liked it though. It was a really great night and I got some amazing gifts. My favorite was Kathryn's painting. So cool.

This is what I got, even though most of the people reading this were there.

My favorite things to get though are cards! I liked Phoebe's card which said: "Happy Birthday. You are the LOVE KETCHUP on the SAUSAGE of my LIFE. I relish every moment with you." Lanny's card was a two inch by two inch piece of white lined paper folded in half which said "Birthday FOREVER" scribbled in black pen with and 09 on the outside. Jeff (and Bryan's card) but actually Jeff's was a crumpled (I really though the word was crimpled, but it's not) peice of white computer paper taped shut that said sealed with a kiss, opening to reveal a pencil sketch of a bag clip and a lemon. "HAPPY SWEET 16 KELZEE GURL" was written next to them. Michela's card told me I lived an ok life and that I shouldn't be jealous of her lips because they're not THAT great. Basically I think that the cards I got from my friends did a good job of portraying the way I view them. Not the way I view them necessarily, but each of their personalities were captured well in the cards they gave me. Like Abby's card that said: Made especially for you by ABBY SEXSHACK PRODUCTIONS.

I think it's weird that my good friends refer to me as Kelsey Lee. What other Kelsey would they talking about? I wouldn't say: I am hanging out with Michela Crowley right now. I know it's a popular name, but there aren't two of us in our group, or even in an extended group of friends. Unless you coun't Kelsey Duquette, but I'm not counting her. Once when I was babysitting, the woman though my first name was Kelsey Lee, and asked me if I prefer being called just Kelsey or Kelsey Lee. Othertimes, people mistake me for an asian before they meet me. Stupid name.

  3. Your dad is so sweet to bring you flowers! I just want to say happy birthday again. And don't worry about the last name thing, people do it to me too... I don't know why really, other than it's catchy. Be glad your first name and your last name go nicely together.
